Supervision & practicum placements

HILS provides supervision to individuals seeking certification as a BCBA or BCaBA

Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analysts – are individuals who:
• Belong to a professional association, called the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB). The Behaviour Analyst Certification Board has defined ethics, standards, and requirements that all BCBAs and BCaBAs must follow.
• Provide functional behaviour assessments, functional analyses, and consultation in the development of teaching programs and behaviour management programs in public or private settings;
• Have passed a national examination in applied behaviour analysis reflecting a mastery of how to apply behavioural principles;
• Have been supervised by a qualified BCBA or BCBA-D for a required period of time prior to taking the examination;
• Have completed required university courses and training in the theory and techniques of ABA; at the Master’s level for BCBA, the Doctoral level for BCBA-D, and the Bachelor’s level for BCaBA.


Our BCBAs have extensive experience serving individuals with a variety of diagnoses and behavioural challenges in a variety of settings.

Our BCBAs are ready to work with you on further developing your skills and/or earning your certification.

We can provide supervision to individuals who have begun their coursework required to meet the BCBA or BCaBA coursework requirements and are seeking Supervised Independent Fieldwork.

HILS currently offers two paths toward certification:

1) The requirement for BCaBA includes:
• 1000 hours of Supervised Independent Fieldwork.
• Minimum of 10 hours per week of supervised work, and a maximum of 30 hours per week of supervised work (which can be counted towards certification).
• Supervision for at least 5% of the supervised work during each 2 week supervision period. E.g., if during a 2 week period you work for 20 hours providing behaviour analytic services, you must receive 1 hour of supervision during that 2 week period.

2) The requirement for BCBA includes:
• 1500 hours of Supervised Independent Fieldwork.
• Minimum of 10 hours per week of supervised work, and a maximum of 30 hours per week of supervised work (which can be counted towards certification).
• Supervision for at least 5% of the supervised work during each 2 week supervision period. E.g., if during a 2 week period you work for 20 hours providing behaviour analytic services, you must receive 1 hour of supervision during that 2 week period.
